As a result of academic success and ability to share and spread good practice, Old Swinford Hospital was awarded High Performing Specialist School status in 2007.

Science specialism

In April 2008, we were delighted to be designated a Science Specialist School, a further achievement to match our Business and Enterprise Specialist status, received in 2004.

It reflects the exceptional success of our science department and will benefit both our students and the local community as we promote the role of science within it.

Business and Enterprise specialism

Through the Business and Enterprise specialism, the school has been involved in national projects and has developed links with major employer organisations. Members of the business community are frequent visitors to Old Swinford Hospital, enhancing our students’ knowledge and helping them develop the skills and qualities so important in our rapidly changing world.

Music

Old Swinford Hospital is justifiably proud of its music department and the huge contribution it makes to school life. Music features on the curriculum of nearly a third of our students, who perform both in the school and on tour.

Our students have represented the school at concert events in Barcelona and Venice, while their self-organised ‘Battle of the Bands’ is one of the most popular events on the school calendar.

The school orchestra, concert band, swing band and choir all perform to an exceptional standard, under the guidance of expert tutors, who include two concert pianists.
